Breast lift surgery reshapes and repositions drooping breasts. This procedure, which is also known as mastopexy, is the only way to significantly lift sagging breasts. Once the breasts have descended, surgery is the only way to bring them back to a youthful position.
With a breast lift, you can elevate the nipple and breasts while also decreasing areola size. If breast fullness is lacking, you can choose to undergo a combined breast lift and augmentation procedure called augmentation mastopexy.

How to Determine if a Breast Lift is Right For You
During a consultation, Dr. Kluska can evaluate the degree of breast droop that you are experiencing. To determine the proper breast lift technique, plastic surgeons have an objective method for measuring sagging of the breasts. Dr. Kluska evaluates the position of your nipple in relation to the breast crease. In a mild case, your nipple would be level with the breast crease. In a severe case, the nipple would be below the crease, positioned at the lowest point of your breast.
A variety of causes may contribute to these conditions including pregnancy, weight loss or genetics. Whatever the cause, Dr. Kluska can design a breast lift procedure for you that corrects breast sagging. If you are a smoker, you should quit at least 6 weeks before your breast lift. If you are planning a future pregnancy, it may be best to postpone surgery until after childbirth.
Breast Lift Surgery Information
This is an outpatient procedure with operating time of 1 to 3 hours. In most cases, general anesthesia is used, so you will be asleep during surgery. In select cases where a limited incision is appropriate, local anesthesia with sedation may be used.
The basic technique with a breast lift will remove skin, fat and glandular tissue to reshape and elevate the breast while repositioning the areola. Incisions may be placed around the nipple, within the breast crease, and vertically from the areola to the breast crease. At the end of the procedure, the incisions are closed with dissolvable sutures.
After Your Breast Lift Operation
Recovery time is about 1 to 2 weeks in most cases, but rigorous activity will need to be avoided for about 4 weeks. For about 3 or 4 weeks, you will need to wear a bra designed for recovery. Some bruising, swelling, and discomfort is normal. Dr. Kluska will prescribe medications to help you manage pain during your breast lift recovery.
