  • Deep smile lines
  • Excess tissue in neck / lower face
  • Folds or pockets of neck fat
  • Loss of angularity in the jaw

The Right Candidates for Facelift Surgery

Most people who choose to undergo a facelift are in the range of 40 to 60 years old. Like all surgical procedures, a facelift is better suited for healthy patients who do not smoke. You should notify Dr. Kluska if you have high blood pressure, problems with blood clots, or a tendency to form prominent scars.

What to Expect During Your Facelift

For your individual case, there are many options you can discuss with Dr. Kluska. A facelift can be done under general or local anesthesia; it can be done on an outpatient or inpatient basis; and you can choose to have other facial rejuvenation procedures performed during your surgery.

The facelift requires about 2 to 3 hours of operating time. Incisions follow the natural contour of your facial structure. The incisions are located along your hairline, ears and neck. After separating the fat from the skin and underlying muscles, Dr. Kluska trims and tightens tissue as necessary. The skin is then re-draped and fixated with stitches.

After Your Facelift: What to Expect

You should plan for about 2 to 3 weeks of recovery time, when plenty of rest will be needed. After surgery, you will be sent home wrapped in a loose bandage designed to minimize swelling. Some numbness, bruising and puffiness is normal during this time. Keeping your head elevated will help minimize these effects. The facelift incision scars will be hidden within the contour of your skin and they should gradually fade and flatten out. Ask Dr. Kluska about applying makeup after your facelift.

Facelift Risks and Possible Complications

Like all surgical procedures, a facelift carries a risk of complications. Adverse events include but are not limited to infection, reaction to anesthesia, poor healing or results, nerve injury and hematoma. If you are concerned about these possibilities, be sure to ask about complications during your consultation.
