Indications for Rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty has a multitude of possibilities for aesthetic improvement and the ideal nose will vary for each patient. The basic goal is to bring the nose into better proportion, balancing it with your other facial features.

Rhinoplasty can help if your nose is large, small, bumpy, crooked, wide, or narrow. In order to have this operation, you should not be using nasal medications or illicit drugs. You should also be capable of understanding the risks, benefits, and limitations involved with cosmetic surgery.

The Rhinoplasty Procedure: How Dr. Kluska Reshapes Your Nose

Before your surgery, you will meet with the doctor here in Greensburg to discuss your aesthetic goals. Together, you may study photos and discuss the ideal angles that your nose should exhibit.

A rhinoplasty operation takes about 1 to 3 hours to complete. You will be under local anesthesia with IV sedation. There are two basic techniques in nose surgery: the closed rhinoplasty and the open rhinoplasty. Most patients can undergo the closed technique, in which all incisions are made within your nose. In open rhinoplasty, Dr. Kluska lifts the nose skin to obtain a clear view of all nasal structures. Bone and cartilage of your nose will be reduced, augmented or refined as necessary. After nose reshaping, dissolvable sutures and nasal packing will be placed within the nose, along with a special splint.

After Your Rhinoplasty Procedure

You should be able to return to work or school within 1 to 2 weeks. After the first week of recovery, you may be able to stop using pain medications and the nasal packing can be removed.

There are special considerations with rhinoplasty beyond the 2 week recovery period. First, you may have to wait, sometimes a few months, for the swelling to fully subside. Second, it may take some time for you to adjust to the changes in your appearance, especially if you are older. A small adjustment in rhinoplasty can make a major difference in your overall appearance. Once you have adjusted and the swelling has cleared away, the full results of your rhinoplasty can be appreciated.

Risks and Possible Complications of Rhinoplasty

All surgery carries a risk of complications. With rhinoplasty, these risks include but are not limited to nasal obstruction, bleeding, sinus infection and unsatisfactory cosmetic results. If you are concerned about adverse events such as these, be sure to ask for more information during your consultation with Dr. Kluska.
