Sculptra

Sculptra Aesthetic is an injectable wrinkle filler that can provide results lasting as long as two years. Acting on the cells in your connective tissue, Sculptra gradually stimulates collagen growth to correct wrinkles.

At the Center for Plastic and Cosmetic Surgery in Greensburg, we may recommend Sculptra for treating nasolabial folds, marionette lines, flat cheeks or imperfections on the chin and temples.

Who should use Sculptra Aesthetic?

Sculptra is typically recommended for patients who are relatively young (30s and 40s) who show early signs of aging characterized by loss of tissue volume. If you want immediate results prior to an important social event, this product is probably not for you. For a long lasting correction of folds and wrinkles, Sculptra is a good choice.

How Sculptra Works

Sculptra Aesthetic is a polymer filler made with poly-L-lactic acid, a substance derived from the alpha hydroxy acid family. It was originally manufactured by sanofi-aventis for treating loss of facial fat in patients with HIV. Doctors frequently used it off-label for cosmetic purposes in other patients, which led to its expansion as an FDA-approved cosmetic product.

Using a fine needle, Sculptra is injected beneath the skin using a particular technique. To control discomfort, Dr Kluska may administer topical anesthetic or a nerve block.

Sculptra is proven to stimulate fibroblasts to produce collagen. What makes this product unique is its delayed response, which means that your first treatment will be very conservative. The doctor will treat you, wait for the results to show, and assess them for further correction. 3 treatments with Sculptra are typically done at 3 or 4-week intervals for a cosmetic correction lasting approximately 2 years.

What to Expect After Sculptra Treatment

Results are not immediately visible and they may continue to improve for up to one year. You will need to schedule a follow-up treatment a few weeks later so the doctor can evaluate your results.

Possible side effects with Sculptra (and other wrinkle fillers) include granuloma formation, which can occur months or years after injection. The rate of detectable granuloma formation with Sculptra is low and they may be resolved with or without treatment. Other possible side effects include redness, bruising, itching, bleeding, swelling and discomfort at the injection site. If Sculptra side effects are a concern for you, ask Dr. Kluska for more information.
